Boaz and Quatro just after being sheared.

We raise Navajo Churro Sheep, which are native to the southwest, therefore cost less to feed as they forage the native grasses and trees. The children and I worked on a ranch in exchange for a start to our herd, a male and two females. This fall we have had one class with three people teaching the care and maitenence of the sheep- hoof trimming and care, what to do with the wool, and how to care for lambs.( Total hours 3) The frugal life affords us with wool to sell, lambchops and mutton. We never bought lamb before as it was so pricey from the grocery. In our class we teach how raising your own animals is affordable and actually benefits your family foods. We stress the need to remain small scale in this venture, and to seek out animals native to the region.
